Children’s Ministry News

Now, you might ask, “Why on Earth does our children’s department need more money?  Don’t they have a budget?”  Well, yes, we do have a budget – one that suits us very well for our regular needs.  However, we are planning to start an exciting new project for the children of this church, and we are asking for your support in helping us realize our goals.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we take two vans to Itawamba Attendance Center and pick up an average of 15-20 children each day.  We bring them back to the church for a time of Bible study and recreation.   We are so excited to have so many children coming to church during the week.  But what would excite us even more is to have all these boys and girls present on Sunday mornings.  On a normal Sunday morning, we average 8-10 children.  Why are the kids who show up after school during the week not coming to Sunday school?  What could we do to make them want to come?

Our answer to this question is to make Sunday school fun.  We want to make children excited about getting up on Sunday morning and learning about God’s Word.  We want them to experience the Bible stories in ways that intrigue them and make them want more.

The rotational Sunday school model takes into account the different learning styles of children and teaches them in a variety of ways.  During any given unit, the children will learn one Bible story.  Over the course of six weeks, they will explore that Bible story in six different ways, such as computers, science, art, and video, just to name a few.  The idea is that through repetition and engaging activities, children will not only learn the Bible stories, they will also retain what they have learned.

To get this program started, we’ll have to do a lot of work decorating the children’s area and planning the curriculum, and that is why we are asking for your help.  First, we need your prayers.   A project of this magnitude will never get off the ground without our hearts being in the right place.  Second, we need your talents.  This rotational model relies heavily on church volunteers.  Finally, we need your financial support.  Please pray and consider what you and your family can do to support this project.  On behalf of the children, thank you for investing in the future of this church.
