Good News
We share the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
We share the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
We grow and help others grow in the love of God and neighbor.
We rejoice in the great tradition of the church across the centuries.
In our worship, study, and work in our community, we aim to be a church centered on the good news of Jesus.
The Gospel of Mark tells us that Jesus came "proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news'" (Mark 1:14-15). Jesus proclaimed good news. Jesus is the good news.
We believe that "in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself" (2 Corinthians 5:19). Jesus's life, death, and resurrection enable us to be forgiven of our sins and have life with God.
We believe that the good news of Jesus is for the whole world (John 3:16). John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement, put it this way: "The grace or love of God, whence cometh our salvation, is free in all and free for all." In other words, the good news of Jesus is entirely a matter of God's gift for us, and it is available for every person.
Paul wrote to the church in Rome that "hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us" (Romans 5:5). At Fulton UMC we have the same hope. As we rejoice in the good news of what Jesus has done for us, we know that God is still at work in us to enable us to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and to become more like Christ. From our programming for children and youth to our adult discipleship classes to our service and mission in Fulton and beyond, we look for the the Holy Spirit to fill us with the perfect love of God.
We know that we are not the first people to follow Christ, and we rejoice in the "communion of saints"—all believers, living and dead, united in Christ. For this reason we celebrate and pass on "the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints" (Jude 3). We seek to express the great tradition both in the way we worship and in the faith we proclaim—with ancient truth for today's world.
Methodists have been sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in Fulton since the 1830s. We honor the legacy of those who have come before us in the faith while living out our faith now and passing it on the the next generation of disciples of Jesus.
We now worship in the sanctuary of Christ the King Catholic Church, which for 38 years was the site of Fulton UMC. We're grateful to share in ministry and in the good news of Jesus with them.
