Lifting up our hearts to the Lord

11:00 Sundays, 100 E. Main St. (at Christ the King Catholic Church)

Liturgy and Sacraments

Liturgy and Sacraments

Our worship is liturgical—meaning both that it follows patterns used by Christians for centuries and that it involves the whole congregation. Together we praise God, hear from the Scriptures, profess our faith as expressed in the creeds, pray for our needs and those of others, confess our sins, and give thanks to God. As we worship, we join with Christians across our community and the world in lifting up our hearts to the Lord.

We have communion on the first Sunday of each month. We believe that we are initiated into the body of Christ in baptism and nourished as the body of Christ in Holy Communion. Since all who are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are part of Christ's church, you do not have to be a member of our congregation to join in Communion with us.

Musical Tradition

Musical Tradition

Our chancel choir leads our singing on the first and third Sundays of the month. We typically sing hymns but will also include special offerings of new songs and musical styles. As Charles Wesley wrote (and we now sing), "O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace!"

Are you interested in sharing your musical gifts by singing in the choir or playing an instrument? Let us know!

Scripture and Preaching

Scripture and Preaching

Each Sunday we read together from the Old and New Testaments. Our preaching is Biblical, with a focus on the good news of Jesus for us today.

Children and Youth

Children and Youth

Children and youth join with our whole church in its praise of God. Our youth help lead worship nearly every Sunday as readers and acolytes, and our younger worshippers have a dedicated time for a children's lesson as part of the service. Activity bags and children's bulletins are also available for younger children.

A nursery is available for those who wish to use it, but children of all ages and dispositions are welcome in worship.

Visitors

Visitors

We have a place for you in worship! Join us on Sunday as we praise God together.

The church has no dress code, and you will see some people in casual clothes and others in their "Sunday best."

For those with mobility concerns, a ramp is available on the Clifton Street side of the church.

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for Purity

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
